We lost a good one on September 11th 2021. Mike Fata passed away from aggressive cancer. We didn’t see it coming, don’t think it’s fair and are shocked that he’s gone. We always thought he’d be the last one standing as he didn’t drink (except Diet Coke), didn’t really swear (unlike the rest of us), was incredibly giving (he loved volunteering at the Food Bank), was super funny (he spent the time to pick out the BEST birthday cards) and loved spending time with family and friends.
He was an excellent poker player and dreamed of winning his way into the WSOP big game. It’s exciting that his good friend Johnny Lo is left for a WSOP tournament in Las Vegas with Mike’s lucky airplane charm and some ashes so he can be part of the event. He was a decent golfer and loved being on the course with his buddies. He was a great father-in-law and was 100% there for Richard, Michelle and his grand kids. Always available to go to a game in the rain on a Sunday or drive up to Seattle for a birthday or join in some nutty adventure. He was positive, funny, always present and a wonderful dad.
Lisa, Michelle and Heather organized a wonderful service for him on October 2nd at the Columbia Funeral home where his dad, Peter, worked for a while. It was great to see so much support, family and friends there. Click on the baby Michael image below to watch the video that everyone contributed to.
Below that is a video of Lindsay and Jackson singing “What a Wonderful World” which is the song Michael and Michelle danced to at our wedding for the Father-Daughter selection. Enjoy.
